The Prince Gets a Contract Fit for a King
Another Prince Fielder article on the Internet? Well if the fat-man wasn’t trending before, he certainly is now. Sorry I just learned what trending means about 18 seconds ago. #Knowledge
So the Tigers, Prince,… oh and Scott Boras made a heck of a splash yesterday afternoon (Hey Prince NO cannonballs please) agreeing to a 9/$214M contract. That’s a lot of bacon (is there such a thing as a vegetarian version of bacon for Prince?)!
So what does this mean for fantasy baseball, as we all could care less what this means in real life? AMIRITE?
I completed my projections (which I will start to roll out next week…cue the Luda music) about two weeks ago and went back last night and only adjusted Fielder slightly given his change of scenery. I always assumed he would end up in Washington, and this switch-a-roo isn’t going to change my opinion on him much at all. I suggest that you read this handy article as well.
I was also doing some research to see how Comerica plays out vs. Miller Park but the article above sums it up really well, plus the author is probably a lot less hungover than I am right now. I apologize, it’s just I celebrated the big move by having Prince Fielder shots of Whiskey last night…aka vegetarian shots of whiskey….aka shots of whiskey. Also I saw Jayson Stark posted the following tidbit on Twitter last night: “Did some checking on Prince’s HRs. RF in Comerica is 339 feet. Shortest Prince HR to RF in any park last year was 363.” (Hey thanks Starky for doing my work for me…it’s cool if I call you Starky right?) Not even sure if that tweet means much because we already know the dude is powerful but I’ve been asked questions similar to that already.
Prince is absolutely a top 10 fantasy pick this year and without giving away my top 10 just yet I’ll say there are only a few 1B I have ahead of him, oh and having Cabrera ahead of him in the lineup will be nice.
My projections for Prince Fielder: 95/36/110/.290/1
So now let’s examine the other player who will see a bump. About a month ago I tossed and turned a little debating who should be the #1 Fantasy Baseball player for 2012. You see I take my rankings seriously…unlike how I take “paying my taxes on time” and “responding to people who are being attention whores on facebook.”
So any-who this move really benefits Miguel Cabrera…who SPOILER ALERT was already #1 in my Top 10 (and whaddya know my Top 100 as well) even with Victor Martinez lost for the year. Having the even fatter man behind him means the obvious (seeing better pitches, etc.) but the potential of Miggy gaining third base eligibility is the definition of awesomeness. It makes it even easier to say that Miguel Cabrera should be the number 1 pick in your draft in 2012. Plus, I don’t know if I can picture anything more funny than a drunk trying to play third base.
Finally, with Prince now firmly stationed in Detroit for the next 9 years, father’s day will be even quieter in downtown Detroit than it already was (ZING! ehhhhh you got any gum?)
